With the return of Bridgerton 3 we are captivated for a third time. This year Colin Bridgerton is Psych-she’s writer, Issy’s, diamond of the season.
Bridgerton Season 3 has finally arrived. The dazzle of the confessions of love, the costumes and the orchestral adaptations of Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo have captured us for another year, launching the season to number one of Netflix’s most watched list.
But in past years it has been the likes of Duke Simon, played by Rege Jean-Page, and Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey, who have captured us so intensely thanks to those very entertaining scenes (we all know the ones I’m talking about). Personally, Colin on the other hand, was just…there. Sorry Colin.
Season 3 on the other hand has shown a different side. Shonda Rhimes, the creator of the hit Netflix series, seems to put some magic potion of spray tans and a rigorous gym routine in the water that makes the perfect leading man sparkle as the diamond should.
Obviously that is not the main reason Colin is my diamond of the season but it does help my choice hehe.
On a more psychological level, in Season one and two his brothers seemed to float in society so effortlessly as the perfect gentlemanly socialites. I suppose floating like that comes naturally to some people, but not for Colin and even myself, if I’m honest.
Colin would nervously trip up his words at balls and social events, especially around Marina in season one (thank god that wrapped up quickly). Yet the only place he truly seemed to be himself was with his family and, of course, Penelope.
Now, as we’ve seen in season three, thanks to his worldly travels, Colin has returned as a new man. Flirting. Giving the ladies a cheeky wink. Even though his wink did make me whole-heartedly cringe, he seems to have gained a new-found confidence which is not performative or ungenuine.
The Bridgerton writers had to make something happen to make Colin stand out from the Duke and Anthony, the other leading men of the last two seasons. They certainly didn’t disappoint. Once quite a shy man, now seems to be a social butterfly like his other siblings, navigating the twists and turns of what promises to be a quite drama-filled season. Whether we have to thank his tan, gym routine or the multiple threesomes Colin’s been having, I will never be bored of seeing Colin on my screen again.
Yes, of course Colin has made some mistakes. I can’t forgive him yet for saying he would never become a couple with Penelope, even if Penelope has, and he does seem to become the typical heroic masculine saviour whenever he gets the chance. But hey we all have our flaws right?
But watching Colin evolve, alongside Penelope, makes their love story all the more interesting and I, as well as the rest of the Psych-she team, cannot wait for the second part of Bridgerton Season 3. *sets reminder for June 13th*
